Madhu's wedding

After quite a long time, I attended a wedding (all through the night). If I exclude the weddings in my family, it has probably been more than a decade since I did so.

My sweet cousin Madhu got married yesterday. I had the privilage of attending the event in the beautiful village of Bishnupur, Madhu's home. In the days leading to the wedding, my mother was not doing well. For two days, she spent the days in bed because of pain. I still didn't quite make up mind to attend the wedding. But on the day of the wedding, she got better and advised me that I should attend the wedding. I hitched a ride with Tulika who was doing the makeup for Madhu. We reached the venue at 1 pm.

The festivities had already started there. It was overcast, though not chilly. I got to witness the helpful nature of the village when numerous people chipped in to help take the activies forward. All the rituals were carried out with great fanfare.

Started with Tesseract

Right now, all the Assamese news papers that are available online are in image format (e.g. www.asomiyapratidin.in). This means they are not searchable. So I had this idea to convert the image based news paper to an actual text based news paper. So I started checking around for an optical character recognition tool (by which you can convert letters in an image to a text). Found that the best OCR tool for both training and using purposes is Tesseract OCR tool which is maintained by Google. So I checked in Tesseract library and found that Assamese is not supported by Tesseract.

So now my little idea has grown bigger and more work. I will have to train Tesseract in a new language first, and then use it to convert the images to text. Fortunately, Bengali is available as a library, so I will not have to remove the entire top layer, I will have to only retrain in only a few characters.

So much for today. Let's see how it goes. Got some office work too.

Bihu! Bihu!

It's Bihu! This time, I am in not in Bongaigaon due to my visa renewal. So, I am trying to enjoy here right in Dubai. Listening/Watching the following tracks:

1. Mon sengeliya.: Janmoni 2007. Very old, almost the beginning of the VCD days. But my favourite Bihu dancer is here (not Shyamantika, the other one. I don't know the name). I've never seen a more elegant dancer.

2. Roi roi roti: Very catchy jojona. That day when I was going to Bhindeu's home I was smiling and singing "... তোমালোকৰ ঘৰলৈ, সদায় যাব পাৰো মই" :). Also very good sound mixing.

3. De de dheki de: Because it is the age of disco Bihu. Beautifully composed.

After a long time (or probably the first time) having dinner at a fancy restaurant in Dubai. I am here at City center deira taking a break from my AX coding break, was passing by the PF Chang shop when I had this 'let's do it moment'. I am going for the drink Shanghai Sunrise and then the Emperor's meal. Decided to give much signature Dynamite Shrimps a pass

ৰঙালী বিহু, ডুবাই, ২০১৭

যোৱা কিছুদিনৰ ব্যস্ততাৰ অন্তত, যোৱানিশা ডুবাইত ৰঙালী বিহু (২০১৭ বৰ্ষৰ)  উদযাপন হৈ গ'ল। এইবাৰ বিহুতলিৰ স্থান আছিল মেট্ৰপলিটান হোটেল । ইয়াৰ পূৰ্বৰ বৰ্ষৰ বিহুৰ অনুষ্ঠানসমুহ উদযাপন হৈছিল একেই মেট্ৰপলিটান হোটেলৰ ডেইৰা ব্ৰাঞ্চত। একেই একেই কম্পানীৰ বেলেগ হোটেলত হোৱা কাৰণে কেইজনমানৰ আহুকাল হ'ল।

আনবাৰৰ তুলনাত এইবাৰৰ বিহু আয়োজন কিছু অনুষ্টুপীয়া হ'ল, কিন্তু তথাপিও আয়োজকৰ প্ৰচেষ্টা শলাগিবলগীয়া। মূখ্য আকৰ্ষণ হিচাপে এইবাৰ আছিল অনুপম শইকীয়া আৰু ঋতিষা শৰ্মা। বিশেষকৈ অনুপম শইকীয়াই তেওঁৰ একালৰ জনপ্ৰিয় গীত সমূহেৰে শ্ৰোতাক বাৰুকৈয়ে আপ্লূত কৰে। আসাম টকছৰ প্ৰেজেন্টাৰ পাপুও তেওঁৰ এংকৰিংৰে অনুষ্ঠান উপভোগ্য় কৰি তুলিছিল।

মই এই বিহু উদযাপনৰ সাংষ্কৃতিক দিশটোত জড়িত আছিলোঁ। বিহুৰ সমবেত সংগীত আৰু আধুনিক গীতত অংশ লোৱাৰ উপৰিও মোৰ ঘৰতেই আখৰাবিলাক হৈছিল।

কিন্তু এই বিহু উদযাপনৰ সবাতকৈ আনন্দময় কথাটো হল যে প্ৰায় সকলো চিনাকী অসমীয়া মানুহকেইজনত বছৰটোৰ মুৰুকত এই বিহুতেই লগ পোৱা হয়। ডুবাইৰ এই অসমীয়া সমাজখন মোৰ সামাজিক জীৱনৰ এটা অংগ। আনটো অংগ হল ভিনদেউ আৰু অংকুৰহঁতৰ পৰিয়াল।

We like sitting down and asking for stuff. And that's why just when relative peace has returned to the region, we are sitting down and asking for, again, the Bodoland. And conveniently, we are not asking it to our own leaders who settled for BTAD in 2003. We prefer to forget that and go back to square one. #আকৌবড়োলেণ্ড

Thunderstorm and rain in Dubai. It was such an adventure driving on the highways. I had the very familiar feeling of driving and riding in India in the dark with the very little light of the bike.
